Morning romp with the dogs

Those that know me well enough know two things about me: 1) I love my dogs and 2) I love the outdoors.   This morning, with a little bit of free time on my hands, I thought it would be perfect to head over to a local patch of state land.  The dogs gleefully jumped in the back of the truck and off we went.  Two hours and one completely relaxed photographer later (do you ever do something so relaxing that you feel pleasantly tired and a nap is only minutes away?… that was me this morning) I uploaded the fruits of my labor into the computer and began editing.  I know pics of someone elses dogs aren’t very exciting, so I thought I’d tell you a few things about them to entice.  First off, they’re both Gordon Setters (cousins of the Irish Setters), both females.

Freya will be 6 this year.  We bought her from Greenough Gordons out of Wyoming when she was just a pup. For those of you who’ve ever struggled with weight issues, you and Frey-Frey have something in common.  This girl doesn’t chew, she inhales her food.  She’s always been “big boned”, so much so when she lost 10 pounds recently we took her to the vet.   The vet assured us nothing was wrong with her.  (I had been jogging with her, they figured that trimmed her down a bit.)   She’s a growler, but a lover.  She’ll run up to you growling, then lean against your leg begging to be pet.   She’s Hailey’s dog really, and every night I literally tuck both of them in, Freya snuggled right close to Hailey’s side.  Just a few months back, we had to have Freya’s tail amputated, which was a HUGE deal, very traumatic for all of us.  So, in the pics below, she’s the one with the stub.  ; )

Then there’s Mazy.  She just turned one a few weeks ago.  Last year, Neil and I drove to Wisconsin to pick her up from Amathyst Gordon Setters, as a surprise for Regan.  She is definitely the wild-child of the family!  Reminds us so much of Bo, our first Gordon, with the lean, deep chest, and endless energy.  Because of her cute puppyness, she gets away with murder around the house.   She has Neil wrapped around her little puppy toe, and Regan is too much of a softy to discipline her.    She doesn’t really “run” but actually leaps like a deer anywhere she decides to frolic.  Did I mention endless energy?

Freya is on the left, Mazy is on the right.
