Daughters

Neil snapped this shot of me and the girls just before we hit the road to celebrate Mother’s Day with extended family.  It’s not a perfect shot; we needed a refector or fill-light, but I knew my chances of getting this shot would decrease (rapidly) if I started pulling out fancy equipment!   But it’s rare to get all three of us in one picture so of course I’ll cherish this portrait of me and my daughters during this awkward in-between childhood and adulthood time in their life.

Someday my girls will look back on this portrait and remember me running around, camera in-hand, trying to cajole and guilt them into posing for it.  They’ll probably forget about the fight they got into during the 1-1/2 hour car ride to my brothers.  They won’t remember that out of the 200+ pictures I took that day, I didn’t take one of my own husband… (fail).  But hopefully, when I’m long gone, they’ll glance at this imperfect portrait and smile while they tell my [future] grandkids how hard they remember me squeezing them everytime we hugged.  They’ll remember how I breathed in their scent when I kissed the top of their head.  And they’ll probably laugh as they remember my own loud belly laugh.

I’m about to get preachy here mammas!  Get in your own photos!  Leave traces of yourself!  Make an effort to create mementos for your children so they too can have something that will trigger sweet memories of you.  I can’t stress this enough.

Call or email me, I’m always having money-saving mother/child promotions (even if your ‘children’ are 17 and 19 like mine are!)   Commit to making an appt today, don’t procrastinate.  They need a history of you NOW momma, even with those 5  or 25 extra pounds.
